Audrey Morrissey, a show runner for NBC’s hit reality singing competition The Voice, teased details of a new twist coming next season in an interview with the Huffington Post. Here is what she had to say.
“This upcoming spring season, we’ve added a new element that I can’t quite talk about yet that will be a new exciting twist,” Morrissey revealed. “There are also changes like new coaches, updated design packages, and updating the sets that keep the show fresh.”
If it were up to me this new twist would be the reveal that the blind auditions and battle rounds would be cut back to give more weeks for the live shows. Either that or they’d cut Itunes being a determining factor in voting.
But I digress.
Over on popular reality TV fansite, Idol Forums, rumors are currently swirling that the twist Morrissey is talking about is a “block” that will be given to coaches during the blind auditions. According to the site, they can be used to block contestants from picking another coach and joining their team.
If true, I’m not sure how I feel about this twist. It seems like it would be a disservice to the contestants. Sure it might make for good TV, but in the grand scheme of things the show may be taking a contestant away from a dream partnership. Who knows. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out.
