This announcement comes on the heel of Idol’s ratings coming out strong following a successful Disney-themed night.
Also, the judges’ panel consisting of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, along with host Ryan Seacrest are all set to return.
“We knew that American Idol on ABC would unleash an opportunity for singers from all walks of life to realize their dreams and that these incredible contestants would have America rooting for their success,” Channing Dungey, who is the president of ABC Entertainment, shared in a press release. “I am thrilled that Katy, Luke, Lionel and Ryan will be back to once again embark on this Idol journey with us to discover the next crop of inspiring talent.
This is some pretty exciting news for Idol fans! I’m really surprised they decided to keep Katy around, what with her excessive pay check, but good for her, I guess.
For me personally, I’m really hoping this next season will have a few more weeks for the live rounds. It would be ideal if the show could go back to the season 10/11 format with a top 13 and one person being sent home every week, but I can imagine that’s probably a pipe dream at this point. Double eliminations every week seem like a more likely outcome, which isn’t ideal, but is much better than how things are going with this season’s format.
So there you have it! What are your hopes for season 2/17? Are you happy that the panel will all be returning? Let me know in the comments below!
